To avoid being overweight, many people go on diets, go to the gym, and try to work out as much as possible in the beginning. After a while, they see that they are not benefiting, and quit. They remain fat. This is because of many reasons. They are not interested, not committed, and not motivated enough to carry on. It is the exact same thing with learning English. People usually enroll in a course, take online courses, learn from a book and engage in conversations with English people. After a while they find out that it takes too much work, and they just quit.
Learning a new language is not easy, and takes a lot of work. It also takes commitment and motivation. To learn English, you are going to have to find a way to motivate yourself to do it. Make it fun. If there is no motivation or interest, you will learn very slowly, or never learn at all. Once you are interested, find a way to commit yourself for a certain amount of time every day.
Practice is also important. With a lot of practice, you will start to find it easier to learn new vocabulary and new English words. Remember, practice makes perfect. Here are five ways to improve your English:
Do it every day.
This is important because without dedicating some time to learn, you never will. Find some time for it. Some people only learn for just 30 minutes every day. They do this consistently for a whole year, and then find themselves very advanced compared to when they first started. It only took 30 minutes a day from them. Other people complain for 30 minutes a day why they never learn. Stop complaining and start learning – for only 30 minutes a day.
Keep a dictionary.
Always have a dictionary with you. It is good to have a multilingual dictionary, a dictionary from your language to English, and the other way around. It is better to have a physical dictionary, rather than an electronic one. With a traditional dictionary, you work hard to find a new word, and this will make it in your head. With an electronic dictionary, you do not make any effort to translate the word, and thus you forget it quickly.
Write down and learn new words.
Always write down new words in a book so that it is easy to get back to them. Keep this book with you all the time.
Practice in writing and speaking.
The best way to keep an English lesson in your head is to write it and speak it. Did you just learn how to use verbs in the present continuous? Write them down. Then say them out loud.
Be committed.
As mentioned above, if you are committed enough, you will learn. It is just a matter of time and how much work you put into learning. Prior to commitment, find a way to get motivated to learn. If you can, commitment, hard work and practice, will become easier.
