You live in the world of <strong>IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike the &#8220;Author-Date&#8221; system used in social sciences, IEEE uses a <strong>Numeric System<\/strong>. It looks cleaner, saves lots of word count, and allows for rapid reading of technical data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, it is not so simple. Many students think, <em>&#8220;Oh, I just put a number in brackets. Easy.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not that easy. The biggest reason for <strong>&#8220;Major Corrections&#8221;<\/strong> in engineering theses is often a messed-up numbering sequence. You do <em>not<\/em> give him a new number like [55] just because he appears later throughout the text.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Nightmare:<\/strong> If you insert a new paragraph in Chapter 1 with a new citation, <strong>every single number after it must change.<\/strong> (e.g., [2] becomes [3], [3] becomes [4]).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Solution:<\/em> Never type numbers manually. Just say <em>&#8220;In [1]&#8230;&#8221;<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t write:<\/strong> <em>&#8220;Ali [1] stated that&#8230;&#8221;<\/em> (In strict IEEE, you rarely mention the author&#8217;s name. Just use the number. However, some Malaysian supervisors allow &#8220;Author [x]&#8221; format.
